Terms of sale

These are the terms your order is made on. They are written to be read, and if any part of them is unclear, email hello@lifebound.me and a person will answer it.

Who you are buying from

Lifebound is operated by a company registered in England and Wales. Its company number, registered office and VAT number are published here before we take our first order. The address for anything to do with your order is hello@lifebound.me, and it is read by a person.

What you are buying

One book. One price. That’s the whole thing.

One hardback book, made to order and posted to you, and the app you write it in. The price shown to you at checkout is the whole price: delivery is included, there is nothing to pay on delivery, and there is nothing to pay again to finish your book.

Your order is made when we confirm it, after your payment is taken.

Delivery period

Your book is made to order and printed after you have written it and approved it, so it is delivered after that, not within 30 days of ordering. By ordering, you agree to that delivery period in place of the 30 days that would otherwise apply under section 28 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

When your book is printed

You decide. There is no date in the diary: you write until you are finished, then make a preview, read it, and approve it for printing. What happens between approval and your doormat is on the delivery page.

There is no deadline you can fail, and we will never close your book because you were slow. The one thing we will not do is leave you without a book: if you are still writing two years after your book was due to close — or, where your book has no closing date, two years after your last entry — we will contact you three times, and if we do not hear back we will print what you have written and post it to you.

None of that runs on a paused book. A paused book has no clock, no notices and nothing printed, for as long as it stays paused. It leaves that state when you say so and never on its own.

What we won’t print

We don’t read your book before we print it — it’s yours. But we can’t print everything, and if we find any of the following while making your book we’ll stop, contact you, and refund you in full:

• anything unlawful;
• anything that would put a real, identifiable person at risk;
• content you don’t have the right to use — someone else’s photographs, or writing that isn’t yours.

Where the law requires us to report something, we will. That is the only circumstance in which we would ever pass on anything you’ve written.

Your writing

Your writing and your photographs stay yours. You give us permission to typeset, print and post them for the purpose of making your book, and for nothing else. Entries you mark private are never printed and are never opened by anyone.

You can export everything you have written and every photo you have added, at full resolution, at any time, for free — whether or not you ever order a book, and whether or not your order is still open. Nothing we do to an order takes that away.

If something is wrong with your book

If something is wrong with your book when it arrives, or it does not arrive, email hello@lifebound.me and we will reprint it or refund it. That is in addition to your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which nothing here limits.

Changes to these terms

The terms that apply to your order are the ones published when you placed it. Your book takes months to write, and we are not going to change the deal underneath it.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live somewhere else, you keep whatever protections the law where you live gives you as a consumer.
